ASBESTOS TESTING AND ANALYSIS IN VICTORIA
When you’re starting a renovation or demolition of a building, it’s extremely important that you test for asbestos before proceeding. At Asbestos Guard in Victoria, we provide asbestos testing and analysis for older buildings.
Asbestos is a fibrous material that was used to make buildings more fire-resistant up until the 1990s. It was discovered to potentially cause massive health problems when inhaled. If the materials are disturbed, such as during a renovation or building project, they can be inhaled, staying trapped in the lungs and causing inflammation, scarring, genetic damage, and even cancer.

OUR TESTING PROCESS
1.
We do not clean any surfaces or items in the area you need testing. The asbestos may also exist in the surface dust, which means testing it is a vital part of the process.
4.
We work carefully to avoid kicking up too much dust, using a knife to chisel away a section of material for testing. The sample needs to be between 5g and 100g.
7.
Any area where dust may have landed is sprayed with amended water and wiped down with a wet rag.
10.
All protective gear should be removed and disposed of as per WorkSafe BC’s regulations.
2.
Our staff is outfitted in protective gear, including face mask, gloves, coveralls long pants) and shoes. People without this gear are not allowed in the testing area.
5.
Seal the sample in a secured and labelled plastic bag.
8.
The plastic sheeting, rags and any other contaminants are carefully folded up and disposed of in an asbestos-approved garbage bag. The top of the bag is folded down and securely taped to contain any fibres. Then the process is repeated in the exact same way.
11.
The collected samples are sent to a lab for analysis.
3.
We lay plastic sheeting around the work area in order to catch any dust that may fall from the ceiling as we work. We also spray the entire area with water to ensure dust settles more quickly.
6.
The sealed bag is placed into a second plastic bag to ensure it stays secure.
9.
The area is fully and thoroughly vacuumed and cleaned.
